Mountain Rescue Training was held in Nepal on 25th May to 3rd May 2013. 10 mountain guides and 10 physicians participated in this training program. This training was follow up training which was held in Bolzano, Italy last year. This training programs was supported by EURAC, EURAC Institute of Mountain Emergency Medicine and EURAC, Education, Bolzano, Italy and hosted by Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal (HRA) and Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal (MMSN).

Prof. Hermann Brugger, EURAC Institute of Mountain Emergency Medicine, Dr. Gunther Cologna, EURAC, Education and other doctors and Technical Instructors came from Bolzano, Italy to give Mountain Rescue Training in Nepal. The total participants were 20 in this training program. A round table discussion on “The Perspectives of Mountain Rescue in Nepal” was held on 31st May 2013 (200.2.17) Friday at Hotel Marshyandi, Thamel, Kathmandu. Participating at the program Adventure tour operators, medical doctors and foreign mountain rescue experts have stressed the need to establish a mountain rescue cell. Dr. Gunther Cologna suggested that Nepal should come up with more effective rescue facilities and services. Because of the diversity of natural and cultural, Nepal can attract a lot tourist, So, the country must focus on mountain rescue services. Prof Hermann Brugger apprised about the development of rescue operations in Austria, Switzerland and Italy and stressed that Nepal should have a Systematic Rescue Operation having Mountain Guide & Physicians team together.

Dr. Buddha Basnyat, medical Director, HRA emphasized on the need of collaboration among mountaineers, mountain guides and medical doctors, to make Nepal Himal safer. Likewise, Dr. Prativa Pandey, CIWEC Clinic, IP Chairman Mr. Bikram Neupane, Dr. Ashish Lohani, Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa, Hon. Consul of Belgium to Nepal, Representatives of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, among others shared their views on rescue operation. The total 90 people were participated the interaction program.
